About

Meet Our Lead Trainer- Lex
I have been training dogs for over 10 years with 6 years working in the professional dog training world. I started my education at University of Pennsylvania Working Dog Center. There I studied Service Dog work, Narcotics Detection, Explosives Detection, Search and Rescue, and more. I continued my studies with focus in studying Animal Behavior. My background has grown a passion for helping people understand their dogs and help dogs understand their owners. Your relationship with your dog is the first step to successful training.

Lexi, a skilled dog trainer, worked with our German Shepherd, Scarlet, starting at 10 months old. Scarlet presented with particular herding and reactivity issues, and Lexi tackled these challenges with above average proficiency. Lexi's training approach not only focused on Scarlet but also involved educating us, as pet owners, to ensure a collaborative effort in Scarlet's development. The results were apparent within the first week, with steady progress each subsequent week. Lexi's commitment to maintaining open lines of communication was reassuring and contributed to the overall success of the training. We enthusiastically recommend Lexi as a trainer, and we are confident that our cherished German Shepherd, Scarlet, is in capable hands.

Our dog has really always been reactive and being in a new training environment can feel very emotional and stressful, but Alexa made it a great experience. From day one Alexa met us and our dog with patience, understanding, and a clear plan ahead. She provided regular updates and made us feel very comfortable. We are grateful to be in such great hands with a dog we love so much.

There are so many amazing things I can say about Lex the owner of Disaster Dogs Training! If you don't read anything past this just know - look no further Disaster Dogs Training is THE place to send your pup!! My husband and I adopted our dog Gus from the shelter and quickly realized we needed some help. Gus, albeit a sweetheart, is a high energy dog with reactivity to people and dogs and we lived in an apartment complex with no yard with busy work schedules. I had previously owned a dog with reactivity behaviors who had turned aggressive so having Gus who demonstrated some level of reactivity made me incredibly nervous which only increased the stress levels for myself and poor Gus. Thank goodness we found Lex! From our initial consultation it felt like she took an enormous weight off my shoulders - Lex listened to all of my concerns empathetically; talked through what we would like for training and even what types of training tools we would be comfortable with; walked through our daily routine; and even made recommendations on things we could try before we even began training. I felt like we finally had someone who heard us, but could also help strengthen our relationship with Gus and that I knew had his best interest at heart. Gus has completed the 4 week board and train program with Lex and it was a serious game changer! I went from being nervous to walk out of the apartment any time I needed to take him outside trying to anticipate/avoid anyone or anything that might be out to going out calmly/confidently on walks no matter what environment we're in (recently it was a busy gas station and later a pet store!). We had our initial go home lesson in a hardware store which I was very nervous about it, but it actually gave me a ton of confidence seeing how Gus did and that I could also do what Lex was doing just overall that it was possible! Something I especially love is that Lex not only sends you updates of your dogs while in training and does a go home training so you can be consistent (because a lot of it is teaching the human not just the dog), but also that she gives you all of the tools you need to succeed. Instead of telling you what tools are good for your dog and making you go find it while you make due at home in the meantime, part of the board and train program is that she provides the best equipment to you to take home and ensures it's what works best for your specific dog. After you get home she also shares an Amazon list that has training tools, treats, supplements, toys, etc. so you can continue getting only the best for your dog and aren't lost in the Google blackhole trying to figure it out on your own. In addition Lex gave us insights into Gus' potential past and breed tendencies that may be driving his behavior to help us better understand him. I went from being stressed feeling like I lost control of my home to now being able to have a relationship with my guy and help him better understand the world around him - he is much less reactive to people and we are still working on dogs (but Rome wasn't built in a day) and he loves to work on his training to keep him mentally stimulated. It's also incredibly helpful that whenever I have a question whether it be about behavior Gus is showing, a particular command we're working on, or a training tool Lex is very communicative and willing to help even after your dog has gone home. Because of how amazing Lex has been with Gus (and us as his humans) she is the only person we trust to take care of Gus while we're gone so we have also continued boarding with her! Every time we go to drop him off he gets all wiggly and excited because he's adopted Lex as part of his family and loves getting to spend time with her - we couldn't ask for more! I wish I could type out a thousand thank yous to Lex for what she's done for our family. We wouldn't have the relationship with Gus we have today without her and it has truly helped him so much in his confidence with us and out in the world. Disaster Dogs Training we love you!!!
